xxxxxI offered WeirdNJ these photos (taken around
1985-86) of the former Camp Kilmer army post that sat rotting
near Middlesex Mall in my old hometown of South Plainfield, NJ,
but they said they "were done" with missile base stories.
Well I'm not, so for your enjoyment here are some snapshots I
took as a wandering teenager.
   
South Plainfield fits the
description in the WHO song, "Teenage Wasteland" If
you weren't into sports, there was NOTHING for a guy like me
to do but wander around railroad tracks, factories and what I
then thought passed for "woods." We'd heard old legends
aboiut secret tunnels and fortifications somewhere, but most
were dismissed Being one of thr "poor crowd" one of
my older brothers druggie friends passed on the "secret
location" to me. I don't know if this is still there, the
land has probably been "developed" into a strip mall
or office park.
 
 Believe it or not, this base an official
site. Amaze yourself, do a search on
"nike missile" !
