BACK to Alamo Drafthouse Fan Page.

xxxxxThis fansite apparentl;y comes up a lot when folks are doing websearches, and I get an array of email from around the world. Some of it us harmless mistakes (folks assume Im connected to the Alamo itself or to AICN- I'm not) other emails are flattering compliments or sometimes really creepy folks with too much time on their hands.

xxxxxA British TV station that was doing a "before they were stars" piece and wanted my help on securing the screen tests for "Phantasm" (sorry- dont have it, saw it once and the director swore the crowd to secrecy). Other folks want me to get Harry ("AICN") Knowles to help them on their lowbudget movie. Hey, I cant get Harry to admit he even recognizes me, even though we've been introduced a thousand times. One lady knew the owner a long time ago- but we won't go there.

First up- heres a guy who wants to start his own Drafthouse Cinema, and thought I could help him. I forwarded this email to the theater- and dont know where it went from there:

I saw your website. Looks like a great place, this drafthouse. I used to go to a similiar type place in Washington DC and now have the opportunity to make this kind of place in San Diego, CA. I'm wondering if the owners at the Drafthouse place are very approachable? Do you know them or the manager? How is the staff? I'm really looking to pick the owners or managers brain about the do's and don'ts if you will of making this type of place work. The location will be San Diego, CA so there is no direct competition threat. If you had any suggestions, I would really appreciate your insight. Cheers!

This next guy read my review of "Ed Gein" from Butt Numbathon 1 (1999). I wasnt thrilled with the film, I had just been up

xx xx xx from <DELETED>@aol.com

Hello. I don't wish to appear argumentative, however you are mistaken on the subject of the Gein film starring Railsback. Read on, you may find this interesting. I don't often get e-mail from people in response to my letters, so please feel free to state your views on my critique of this film. I myself, am a Gein coinsure, and the film is highly inaccurate. For instance, the scene when George and his brother go hunting, and Gein kills him with a blow to the head, is highly incorrect. In the true tale, the two brothers were fighting a brush fire, and got separated. When Gein couldn't find George, his brother), he called the police. When they arrived, Gein took them straight to the body. He was heard to have said, "Aint that the darndest thing"? Also, besides altering the name of one of the victims, (Berniece Worden- to whom I neither recall or wish to), they also altered the relationship of her employee, the one who discovered her body in Geins basement, (another inaccuracy, her body was found by either the deputy sheriff, or the sheriff, in Geins summer kitchen), to her. In the film, he was simply a nice, polite employee. In the true tale, he was not only her employee, he was also her son! He was a deputy as well, and nvestigated Geins home with the other police. Also, the scene of the employee threatening Gein in their neighbors house never occurred. Gein was arrested in the neighbors parking lot, after having dinner with them. Also, the scene where Gein is a child, and sees the pig being butchered, is most incorrect. First off, it did not take place in the basement. It took
place in a shed the boys were forbidden to enter. Unable to resist the temptation, Gein peeked in one day, and DID see the pig butchered. He later stated that it was the first time he experienced an orgasm. Also, he wasn't caught, and his father, though an alcoholic, wouldn't even dream of striking Geins mother, which he did in the film. She had such a powerful influence, and Geins father was so weak, he had virtually no authority. Also, something that no one seems to know besides me, and is never alluded to, is the fact that Ed Gein had an accomplice. Indeed, Gein managed to coerce a fellow recluse, who was eccentric, dimwitted, as well as also considered, "strange," by the townspeople, into assisting him in grave robbing. When the man was later committed, Gein was alone once more. Also, Ed Gein was not a necrophelliac, (though he did masturbate over his mothers corpse, he never engaged in sexual situations with the corpses, because they, "smelled too bad.") Also, He as not a cannibal, as everyone assumes. He is known to have said, upon being asked if he was a cannibal, "Eating the flesh and drinking the blood? That's a Catholic thing, isn't it? I don't think my mother would approve of it." Thank you very much.
2nd letter:
Hello again. I have re-read the previous letter, and noticed numerous naccuracies. To begin with, it is not, "their house," it should be,
"Geins neighbors house." Also, it should be, "When Gein and his brother George ent hunting." In conclusion, its not, "parking lot," it is in reality, driveway." I pologize for the inaccuracies, I was in great haste, and upon later reviewing the original, noticed my errors. I apologize again.

(Hey he found THIS site on a search!)
anyway, what I gathered from her description is that the Alamo Drafthouse is a place where you can watch movies, drink beer, eat your dinner, interact with your fellow patrons and basically have a good time. this is not the first good review I've heard of the Alamo Drafthouse. I've heard it mentioned again and again in www.aintitcool.com It also played host to both Harry (of aintitcool) and Quentin Tarantino's film festivals. anyway, this place sounds awesome! and i would love to visit it! with the Alamo Drafthouse and Angelika's you can see the Austin film culture is very well-developed. It seems like Austin is the new nexus of indie/cult filmmaking (I think Robert Rodriguez is from here). So which means, the nexuses of film development in America are LA up to Sundance (Park City, Utah). New York City. And now Austin, Texas. Woo-hoo!    posted by Joey Pogi at 12:47 PM   http://sablog.blogspot.com/?/2002_01_06_sablog_archive.html
Hey heres another wanna be Drafthouse owner! Philipino Drafthouse? Why Not?
Hi Matt Kordelski!
My name is Joey XXXX and I'm a film enthusiast from Manila. I came across your site while surfing about the Alamo Drafthouse (which one of my friends came across in Austin, and said is awesome!) Anyway, I was just wondering. What is the Alamo Drafthouse? Is it a bar? Is it a movie house? Is it both?
Since I don't think I'll be able to go to Austin soon, I was wondering if you could describe the place for me? From the pictures on your site, I can see that it is a great place to be! And looks like a lot of fun!
Anyway, thanks for help!
Sincerely,
Joey XXXX
P.S. I run a film club here in Manila, and I think it is no way like the Alamo Drafthouse. But one can dream! =)
